DEFAV and DEFAMED did not leave earthquake victims alone.
The ITU Maritime Faculty Graduates Social Aid Foundation (DEFAV), like during the Marmaris fire incident, initiated a relief campaign following the earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş.
In this relief campaign, 1,000,000 TL was raised in donations. Through Delta company, 18 generators were purchased and distributed to graduates and families in the earthquake-stricken area. Financial support was provided to ITU students and their families who lost their belongings in the earthquake.
To address another important need in the affected regions, DEFAV reached an agreement with Konya Göksan Prefabricated Containers to deliver 8 containers equipped with toilets and kitchens to those in need.
Unfortunately, on February 6, 2023, our country once again faced an earthquake disaster. We extend our condolences to the losses suffered, and wish swift recovery to the injured and patience to their families. DEFAV could not remain indifferent to this unprecedented disaster and immediately launched a relief campaign, similar to what was done during the Marmaris fire. To date, the relief campaign has raised 1,000,000.00 TL from our graduates and community.
These donations have been organized as follows:
Financial support of 20,000.00 TL was provided to a graduate who lost all belongings in the earthquake.
18 generators of 10.5 kW each were purchased from Delta and distributed, primarily to graduates and their families. An amount of 224,200.00 TL was spent on these generators.
An additional 8 generators were funded by YDO KARA group and contributions from graduates, totaling 180,000.00 TL. Koray Karagöz also contributed 10,000.00 TL.
An additional amount of 15,210.00 TL was spent on fuel, oil, and cables for the received generators, one of which is currently supporting the heating needs of two disabled individuals.
An agreement was made with Konya Göksan Prefabricated Containers for 8 containers. Two containers have been delivered to Iskenderun Development Hospital, with the remaining six to be delivered soon.
Financial assistance of 10,000 TL was provided to a student for their relatives affected by the earthquake.
Two containers were sent to Adıyaman Petroleum Refinery residences on February 14, 2023.
Two containers will be delivered to families of two students in the Hatay region on February 20, 2023.
Financial support of 15,000 TL was provided to a graduate to address specific needs in the earthquake-stricken area.
An amount of 1,227.20 TL was spent on projectors for the food tent set up by maritime brothers.
Two additional containers have been ordered based on requests received and will be shared after delivery.
We extend our special thanks to Ertuğ Kemal Yılmaz (2001 graduate) for his significant support in the procurement and distribution of generators.
During these difficult times for our country, we are honored to have your support and trust in our efforts to alleviate some of the pain.
DEFAV and DEFAMED boards are determined to continue these campaigns and share the list of contributors with the public.
